About BHL
Bulgarian Hypertension League (BLH) was founded 20 years ago by Prof. Chudomir Natchev with his associates from the Clinic of Cardiology, Department of Internal Diseases “Prof. St. Kirkovich “, Medical University of Sofia and other collaborators -physicians, assistants, associate professors and professors, working in the field of arterial hypertension (AH) in various disciplines – clinical and basic. Under the leadership of Prof. Natchev arterial hypertension became emblematic theme, involving famous names from Bulgaria and Europe, who participated in many scientific events, presented to large audience as well as taking part in significant scientific projects.
After the unexpected death of Prof. Natchev, Prof. Svetla Torbova, who was his longtime deputy become a leader of BHL and Chairwoman of the Management Board (MB) with the major part of the team.
Activities of BHL began under the motto “From the methodological guidelines to clinical practice: the hot spots.” There were alot of thematic symposia, at which a large number of new ESH guidelines were presented. Guest speakers at these simposia were well-known European specialists – authors of the guidelines.
Bulgarian Hypertension League was involved by ESH in many common activities, including the Selection Committee for specialists in Clinical hypertension (there are 7 specialist in Bulgaria already).
There are 2 Hypertension Excellence Centers in Bulgaria so far – in Sofia and Varna.
Bulgarian Hypertension League is a regular, associate member of the International Society of Hypertension and was given the right to use its logo on its documents.
Bulgarian Hypertension League is also a member of the World Hypertension League.
